Internships
November 17th, 2008YourTopFive.com is an entertainment web destination created locally by three serial entrepreneurs. YourTopFive.com has had an official relaunch in September of 2008 and has received overwhelming success. The Board of Directors has approved an internship program for local college students providing that the internship offers real world experience in the website creation/startup industry. The selected interns will also be potential candidates for future employment within YourTopFive.com or any of the other businesses created by the serial entrepreneurs.
By working with YourTopFive.com, interns will gain real world experience by working directly with an established local marketing firm as well as a full service web design lab.
There are three different unpaid internship opportunities with YourTopFive.com: Marketing, Graphic Design, and Coding.
Marketing
The marketing interns will have the most broad and encompassing job, utilizing creativity, marketing passion, branding skill, and teamwork. These qualities are absolutely essential in the startup industry. Marketing interns will be responsible for designing creative marketing plans that generate brand awareness, drive traffic to the website, and create a buzz for YourTopFive.com. Interns are expected to work individually as well as in collaborative settings.
Marketing is a team concept, and we stress this at YourTopFive.com. We will be working with all of the interns on internet, direct, and mass marketing, as well as guerilla marketing and PR. The experience and skill set interns will receive at YourTopFive.com is comparable to real world entry-level work in the marketing field.
Interns will be required to do the following:
- Be actively involved with creating the YourTopFive.com image, and conveying that image to the general public via public events, online chatrooms, blogs, and social media outlets through planning and implementation of marketing plans.
- Help craft Press Releases and send them out to the proper people/outlets in order to increase knowledge and awareness to the public.
- Drive traffic to YourTopFive.com by contributing positive thoughtful comments to blogs and other social media/news outlets, as well as posting links to increase inbound traffic.
- Track website hits, unique users, abandonment rates, and use this data in order to suggest changes to the site to improve those numbers.
- Brainstorm unique ideas for driving traffic and spreading the YourTopFive.com logo and brand.
- Maintaining blog posts on YourTopFive.com about the business and upcoming marketing events.
- Set up booths on and nearby campuses promoting YourTopFive.com and signing people up on the website using incentive packages and marketing paraphernalia.
- Approach local businesses and make them aware that their business is featured on YourTopFive.com.
- Input, edit, and organize questions and answers within the existing database.
- Read user suggestions for questions and answers and determine if they are appropriate and make certain that there are no duplicates.
Graphic Design
- Designers should have a working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. An understanding of HTML and CSS will be beneficial.
- Using and furthering already created marketing materials.
- Designing and printing handouts, letters, t-shirts, post cards, iron-on sheets, static cling window decals, and marketing materials, etc. to be used in the branding of YourTopFive.com.
- Establishing cohesive branding for a unifying look and feel.
- Further optimizing the user experience on YourTopFive.com from a design/web user standpoint. This will require working with the coders.
Coders
- Working knowledge on PHP, CSS, and HTML are all required.
- Furthering the current facebook applet and help create widgets for social media sites that draw traffic and interest to YourTopFive.com.
- Work with established coders to update and organize current front end code making the user experience simpler and more easily maneuverable.
- Work with the graphic designers to optimize the user experience from a functionality standpoint.
- Help restructure the back end (administrative) part of the site, working with established coders so the administrators have an easy time managing the site.
- You will have the ability to ban people from the site if they are deemed destructive to the purpose, mission, or concept of YourTopFive.com. This must show a sense of humor, discretion, and a keen sense of judgment.
- Check the site for bugs and potential outside hacking.
